A little more guidance
Are sujud, sujood and sajdah the same?
These terms refer to prostration. Sujud and sujood are alternative English spellings; sajdah commonly refers to a single prostration. This page focuses on remembrance during prostration in salah.
What should I learn first?
Start with “Subhana Rabbiyal A’la” and its meaning. Then learn the other narrated supplications at your own pace, following your school’s guidance on the recitation required in prayer.
Is sujud a time to make dua?
Yes. Sahih Muslim 482 describes a servant’s closeness to Allah in prostration and encourages plentiful supplication. The narrated Arabic duas above are examples to learn.
Can I make dua in my own language during sujud?
The language and wording of personal supplication within salah are matters of school-specific guidance. This page does not give a blanket ruling for every worshipper. Ask a qualified teacher from the school you follow; the English translations here are learning aids.
Should I repeat each text three times?
The narrations cited for these texts do not specify a threefold count. This does not resolve the separate rulings on recommended or required repetition in each school. Follow your school’s guidance; no universal repetition count is assigned here.
What is the difference between the ruku and sujud tasbih?
Sahih Muslim 772 records “Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem” in ruku and “Subhana Rabbiyal A’la” in sujud. The praise and forgiveness text in the third card is reported for both positions.
Are these the duas for the sitting between two prostrations?
No. These texts are for the prostration itself. The sitting between two prostrations is a separate part of salah with its own narrated supplications.
