The declaration of faith
Sahih Muslim
Transliteration
Ashhadu an lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, wa ashhadu anna Muḥammadan ʿabduhu wa rasūluh.
English meaning
I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah alone, without any partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.
Ask for repentance and purity
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي مِنَ التَّوَّابِينَ، وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ.
Transliteration
Allāhumma-jʿalnī mina-t-tawwābīn, wajʿalnī mina-l-mutaṭahhirīn.

O Allah, make me one of those who repeatedly turn to You in repentance, and one of those who purify themselves.
A little more guidance
When should I say the dua after wudu?
Say the declaration after you have completed your ablution. The wording shown in the first card follows Sahih Muslim 234b.
Is the shahadah a dua or a dhikr?
It is a declaration of faith and a form of remembrance, or dhikr. It is often searched for as the “dua after wudu”. The additional wording in the second card is a supplication asking Allah for repentance and purity.
Should I repeat it three times?
The cited narration in Sahih Muslim 234b does not prescribe repeating it three times. This page therefore does not assign a threefold repetition or provide a repetition counter.
Why are there two separate cards?
The first card gives the wording recorded in Sahih Muslim. The additional request for repentance and purity comes from Jamiʿ at-Tirmidhi 55, with the grading note shown beside it. Keeping them separate makes the source of each text clear.
What reward is mentioned for this remembrance?
Sahih Muslim 234a describes the eight gates of Paradise being opened for the person who completes wudu well and then makes the declaration of faith. Sahih Muslim 234b records the expanded wording used in the first card.
Does this page explain how to perform wudu?
No. This page covers remembrance after completing wudu. Learn the steps and rulings of ablution from a reliable guide or teacher following your school of practice.
